#reframethevote
Role: Designer
Overview
In 2018, I studied abroad with my University’s Design program and were tasked with creating a hypothetical intervention using the iconic red telephone booth around a social/political issue in the UK. Our group went out and interviewed Londoners and most of the responses our group received were that people were too busy to be involved or that politics were too complicated with the numerous voting systems in the UK. We saw it as the unawareness in knowing how powerful your voice and vote could be. Our objective with this installation was to increase voter awareness and participation.

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO DECISION MAKING
Overview
After we conducted our research on the four different ways of voting in the UK, we made it all about decision making since essentially that’s exactly what voting is. We simplified the process by creating these post cards that have more fun and simple questions on them to show that voting in the UK is easier than you think. Each question we curated could be viewed as a heavily debated topic which emulated the way true voting could be. Each different post card represents each of the different ways of voting (first-past-the-post, alternative vote, additional member system, and closed party list). All postcards were designed by me.
In-Situ
RENDERINGS
We made renderings of what our telephone booth installation would look like in-situ. We decided to put the question and graphics on the outside to attract people and make the booth seem less ominous and more intriguing. On the inside we have a small shelf on the door that holds the postcards that people would be able to take home with them. Renderings were done by Melanie Zelaya.
